Apply for Funding

The following funding opportunities are available through our program.

Faculty Research Grants

Amount: up to $25,000

Research should be closely related to our core themes and lead to publication. Even if the publication is not finished at the end of the grant period, we require a working paper (or papers) to be provided and a presentation of the work at one of our events after completing the research. Apply

Faculty Conferences and Symposia Grants

Amount: up to $25,000

The event should be closely related to our core themes and lead to publication (journal articles or an edited volume). We require that the papers be written for the event, submitted in advance and revised versions submitted as working papers. Apply

Faculty Small Research Grants

Amount: up to $4,000

Deadline: proposals accepted on a rolling basis.

Faculty should consult with the EDGS director regarding these grants.

Book Conference Grants

Amount: up to $5,000

Deadline: proposals accepted on a rolling basis.

These grants support single-author books by Northwestern faculty. Your manuscript must be under contract or close to submission to a press. The book should be closely related to our core themes. Recipients are encouraged to open their book conferences to Northwestern faculty and students. Funds typically support transport costs, one night of accommodations, refreshments and honoraria. Apply

EDGS Speaker Series

Amount: up to $5,000

The series should be related to our core themes. An honorarium of up to $150 can be paid depending on other costs in the budget. Papers presented will become EDGS working papers. Apply

EDGS Research Associate

Amount: $5,000 in research support

Deadline: applications accepted on a rolling basis; Term: 1/2 year or full year; up to four associates per term and all can be external (non-Northwestern)

Research should be related to our core themes. Our research associates are expected to present one to two lectures at one of our speaker events, provide at least one working paper to the EDGS working paper series and attend our academic events (geography permitting). Apply

EDGS Rajawali Research Scholars in Residence

Amount: up to $50,000 in research support, which can be a stipend, go toward a buyout, or be linked to a sabbatical or another grant

Deadline: applications accepted on a rolling basis; Term: up to one-year tenure; one scholar per year

Research should be related to our core themes. The scholar must be conducting a major research project and/or be writing a major piece of scholarship. The scholar is expected to be fully engaged in our programs, make at least two presentations of his/her work and possibly teach a graduate seminar. The scholar must contribute to the EDGS working papers series. Apply
